Marvin “Donut Man” Miller, the original founder of Greenbush Bakery and a Madison legend, passed away on Friday, March 8th, surrounded by his family.
For the last 28 years, he built the bakery into a Madison staple, forming countless relationships and friendships within the community. Many customers may remember Marv’s warm greeting and his playful offer to try a donut, saying, “If you don’t like it, then just throw it on the floor.
Greenbush Bakery was his pride and joy. Although he referred to himself as “the picture on the box” in recent years, he never stopped selling. He was as straightforward as they come and he loved to paint the picture in your head of who we are and what we do.
Marv was very proud of his achievements, and rightfully so. His legacy as a beloved entrepreneur and friend will continue to inspire many. He leaves behind a thriving business and a family determined to carry on his legacy for years to come.
The business is now owned and operated by Marv’s grandson, Taylor Carlson, who had the privilege of being mentored by Marv for many years and where he taught him the right way to do things. Marv’s daughter, Lisa Carlson, a teacher in the Madison area for almost 30 years, helps out at the bakery on weekends, summers, and whenever she can. Jeff Carlson, his son-in-law, assists with the business operations, along with many other family members and friends who are always ready to lend a hand when needed.
Our family is incredibly proud of all that Marv accomplished during his lifetime, and we know he’s now in a better place, making and selling donuts with even more of a heavenly touch. Through every donut served and every smile he shared, The Donut Man’s spirit and vision live on.
